CREATORS RETREAT

5-9 JUNE 2025

ITALY

The VMI Creators Retreat is more than an escape; it’s a rare chance to unleash your primal voice and reimagine creativity in the breathtaking wilds of Puglia.

Are You Ready to Rediscover Your Primal Voice?

The Voice Movement Immersion (VMI) Creators Retreat isn’t just another escape—it’s an invitation to rediscover your primal voice, embrace uninhibited movement, and spark your creativity amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Puglia, Southern Italy.

More than a mere getaway, this retreat draws on the transformative power of Voice Movement Therapy and leading-edge ideas about creativity, including the pioneering methods of Paul Newham. Here, we go beyond the conventional—using tools that aren’t just about self-expression but about rewiring the way you think about creativity itself. In a space where self-expression knows no limits and only 20 spots are available, this experience is as rare as it is rejuvenating. It’s about you, your voice, and the kind of creative freedom that turns the ordinary into the extraordinary.

What Makes This Retreat Different?

At the VMI Creators Retreat, we go beyond the ordinary by embracing four transformative principles that reframe self-expression and creativity.

Primal Voice Activation:
Unleash sounds—growls, hums, chants—that cut through your usual filters. This isn’t about singing nicely; it’s about reconnecting with the raw, primal voice buried within.

Movement Mapping in Spherical Space:
Forget linear movement. Here, you’re free to explore in all directions, discovering new facets of yourself as you move in 360 degrees. It’s liberation for body and mind.

Ancestral Storytelling:
Creativity is as much about reclaiming old stories as it is about new ones. Through voice and movement, you’ll connect with cultural roots and histories that enrich your own creative journey.

Creative Disruption:
We don’t do safe. VMI thrives on challenging assumptions and breaking convention. Engage in dialogues and dinners that push you to find value in the unexpected and see self-expression in a new light.

Randolph Matthews: The Voice and Movement Alchemist

VMI founder and facilitator Randolph Matthews is no ordinary voice artist. He’s a world-traveled alchemist of sound who has redefined the way we experience voice and movement. Trained at Goldsmiths College and mentored by Voice Movement Therapy experts Anne Brownell and Christine Isherwood, Randolph blends technical mastery with a cultural depth that’s both rare and profound. As the only African-descent facilitator in this field, he brings a unique perspective that turns every session into a journey of rediscovery.

Having performed in over 40 countries, Randolph brings a wealth of experience that spans genres, cultures, and continents. He’s shared stages with legends like Herbie Hancock, Mulatu Astatke, Richard Bona, Angelique Kidjo, and Monty Alexander—Duke Ellington’s apprentice. His accolades include a Best Live Performance nomination at the Jazz FM Awards and winning Best Band at Jazz Ascona.

But Randolph’s artistry doesn’t stop there. As a composer of music and voice movement work for dancers, he’s collaborated with esteemed institutions like Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Ballet, composing pieces for world-renowned choreographers. His compositions have shaped works by Alesandra Seutin and Germaine Acogny, the legendary “Mother of African Contemporary Dance” from Senegal. These collaborations are a testament to his profound ability to fuse sound and movement, creating immersive, emotive experiences that resonate across cultures.

At the VMI Creators Retreat, Randolph invites you to experience his world, where the power of the voice is unchained, and self-expression knows no limits. This isn’t just about learning techniques; it’s about stepping into a realm where creativity becomes an act of liberation—led by a master who’s spent a lifetime challenging the conventional and celebrating the extraordinary.
